Did i ruin my tank by doing this?

so uh. i accidentally dosed with 2 squirts of Dr. Tims instead of dosing with squirts of bio booster after a water change. i have a 29 galon tank with 9 fish, i have Seachem Safe wich detoxifies ammonia nitrites and nitrate, my cylcle was obviously established, but did i just ruin and start it over? right now my readings are 1ppm ammonia and nitrates are 1ppm too i think.. sigh i feel dumb ><

not exactly sure what to do except dose Safe every other day (granted it actually does protect my fish for 48 hours) . suggests?

I would for sure perform a water change, maybe 50% would help. The ammonia will hurt your fish so I would try to get some out

Never used it but i think that is a cycle starter. So if your tank is cycled it should convert the ammonia and nitrites within 12-24 hours. Adding the Prime/Safe should detoxify the levels. Keep an eye on your inhabitants and test again tomorrow. If they have gone down then maybe do a 50% WC or you could actually do a 50%'er today to get the levels down. Be sure to add your water conditioner as well.

yeah the ammonia went down from when i first made this error i immediately tested just to see how much i added on accident.

just wish water changes were faster. my python drains my tank like about as fast as a snail crosses the street

ps: seachem safe is basically the concentrated powder form of Prime. in a nutshell

wonder why your python drains so slow? is your sink level with your tank? That could be why. I know it makes a vacuum with the sink but if its level it may slow it down a little bit.

i dont know about level but my tank is lower than my kitchen sink. tank is also a 29 gallon at 18.5"

the stand my tank is on is 26" tall and my kitched sink is 36" tall

That could be why there is a bit slower siphon. Do you leave your sink water on while your draining your tank?

ive tried both on and off. as you know probably already its a trickle with the water off, i cant tell if its faster with the water on, but i like to think so, problem is if i leave the water on it causes a preasure build up and a leak starts under my sink. i guess its okay since i have buckets and towels under there , but i am worried about long term effects . sepperate issue i know but yeah lol

I use an Aqueon Water changer and like to think it siphons pretty quick. Could there be a restriction somewhere in the hose or at the adapter that u connect to the sink?

i have no idea. i just connect the gold adapter to the faucet after removing the aerater thing and connect the python but its the one that comes with the python. the gold adapter. or i bought it from the same company for the python i dont remember. but its clear open, im sure i could look into it , right now im clueless. would be really nice if it were faster . so definitely worth trying

Yes i would see if it comes apart just to make sure something isn't obstructing the flow. Good luck!

i just took it apart and the only thing i can think of that are blocking flow are these , but they are part of the unit so i dont think it would be them? the tiny drain. and the blocker. i also checked the hose and those are clear of anything. lol i was afraid i would find a dead fish or something

i have the Aqueon water changer so its a lil different. Maybe you have a lil less water pressure causing the slow drain. Maybe a python owner will come along and give u some more insight.

Did you dose Dr. Tim’s one and only (bacteria) or the ammonia? I’m guessing the ammonia since you said your ammonia reading increased?
As far as the python, mine doesn’t drain super fast either. But my house doesn’t have the best water pressure so I figured that’s why.

Oops! I keep that stuff away from my other tank chemicals!
It does but on the other hand, I’ve had a couple of fish be a bit too curious when I wasn’t paying enough attention. So I’m glad it isn’t super suction!
