Did I Accidentally Damage My Cory's Swim Bladder?

My Cory was fine before I changed my water today. The little guy is always very busy as I add the new water (I think he's feasting on the detritus the water lifts from the gravel). I usually try to add the water away from him, but this time he got under the stream and got thrown around a bit (And the stream wasn't even that strong!)

I've added the water exactly like I always do, so I don't think water parameters are the problem?

Now he's still swimming and he's active the way he usually is after I've done a water change BUT every time he lies still, be floats from a horizontal position on the gravel to a vertical one. (he's still at the bottom, but his head is pointing to the top of the tank.

UPDATE: He seems to be getting better. I just saw him resting normally again... but then he moved around a bit and now he seems to be having a bit of trouble again... He didn't start floating into the vertical position as quickly as last time though.

UPDATE 2: I'm happy to say the little guy seems to have recovered fully!

Welcome to Fishlore, sorry your first post is about a problem.
I've never heard of a swim bladder affected by the fish being caught in current, that's not to say that might have happened here.
The only thing I can suggest is to put the cory in a shallow tub & allow him to rest & see if that helps him.

Maybe it could be the water perimeters? What are the readings from your tank? Do you have a test kit to see your perimeters? How much water did you change out? Are any of your other fish having any problems? That's all I can think of is the perimeters from your water change.

If you look underneath him can you see anything shiny? It's just possible that air bubbles got trapped under his barbels or other protrusion and are making him slightly more buoyant at the front. I've only seen that happen in a shrimp before but it's all I can think of.

Welcome to the forum! Hope you get a good answer to help your cory

Thank everybody for the welcome! My Cory seems to have recovered fully, but I'm keeping an eye on him, just in case.

Unfortunately I don't have anything to test the water parameters, but the other fish was acting normally when the Cory was showing the odd behavior. Except for his sudden inability to lay down flat and rest he was swimming around and looking for food normally.

Could be it took in to much air which made it float for some time.

That happened to me last night, incident did not happen again today. Thought she was dead. Edit: is this common occurrnce?

When in stress (newly in the tank or rapidly changing waterparameters / temperature) they'll more often use their "second" breatingsystem (taking air from the surface into their intestial system) and sometimes "overbreath" taking in to much air.
When they'll ease down the problem is solved again,

BTW : Tapatalk crashed. I am getting reports of new posts and so on, but can't react by Tapatalk. My reactions will take longer cause of that.

This has happened to my mother a few times, she would have them for a month or two and then they would die. I have read that they can live five to twenty years if in the right conditions. They also could die when added to a new tank. I know you said you have had the Cory for a month now, but maybe it is still new to the Cory. I don't know what's wrong, it's just strange and I hope the Cory will get better.

It happened right now, got home and the one from last night is dead, stuck under a rock belly up. I was wondering last week why that one was not growing but his/her friends (corydoras bought from the same store) was now almost twice the size since I had them, his/her friend developed long beautiful ventral fins while his/her remained short. I dunno, maybe he was bad from the start but losing him/her was still quite sad. He/she was not thin, he/she was plump.

Maybe your right and he/she was just bad from the beginning. Sometimes that's how it is and your right it's sad when it happens.

I just hope that the remaining very healthy cories won't get stressed losing one of them. Cory are hard to find here. Must find 4 more in the next couple of months and bring their shoal up to a good number.
