Diatoms On Plants

I have a tank that is finishing its cycle right now I’m in the last stage. I’m starting to get diatoms on my plants. Should I remove them from the water and rub the diatoms off or will it go away as the cycle finishes?

Remind me.... are diatoms brown? If so, it's most likely harmless and up to you. I have some here and there that doesn't bother me. I have 2 nerites that eventually find them and clean them right up. As CaptAnnDaniel said, it's personal preference.

I'm assuming your talking live plants. I don't know if you need to remove the plants to wash them, but you may want to try to brush the diatoms off the plants. They can cause the plant to be unable to receive enough light if the plant is covered with them.

Yes they are brown. I had read to keep them out of your tank to remove the plants then clean them. I’m going to give them a week or two to go away. I’ll remove them then. Thanks everyone!

If they're rooted plants, I wouldn't remove them to clean them. I have an issue with diatoms in one of my tanks right now, and I just washed the planted ones off as much as I could in the tank. The ones I could remove, I took a wet paper towel and gently rubbed the leaves, then put them back in. I have at times, used a toothbrush in tank to clean them off too.
