Hello Everyone, it's been long since my last post until today! Can you please help diagnose my Molly girl, when I bought her (4 months ago) a week later she start showing some ill signs. Why it took me so long to came to you guys is another issue, the think is that it was three of them a male and two females, the two female start showing illness signs after the second day one (she is gone) faster than the other one, the thing is that they last a lot and keep eating and so until it degenerates. The one gone at the end was sad an no one in my house had the guts to euthanize her . And don't want for this one to suffer although she still act normal the only thing is her looks. Can someone give me some light, the male seems super, no sign of nothing. This been said she had deliver twice already and for me it look prego again!!! Ayuda Por favor!!

my guess would be either ich or columnaris. Ick looks like salt spicules, columnaris results in white/grey, fuzzy/slimy patches, and fin or mouth rot.
the pics are a bit blurry, so would you mind describing the weird stuff a little more?

Of course not!!! Is like white scale patches on her face area, and the tail had like slat grains some longer (if you see the top of her tail) most of it is in the face, when the other one die her face was almost cover with the patches including her eyes she lost some weight but it was almost NOT noticeable, if it wasn't because I look at them every single day for long periods you can not tell, the sad part is that they last a lot and I feel so sorry and will not dare to just euthanize them she plays around and eat like apig just like the rest!

If they last a long time, it is not columnaris. I almost want to say it looks like some thing like a... film, growing over them. I have no idea what this is; I'm sorry. The patches are clearly not fuzzy, they look thin and slimey to me. You could try a strong anti-fungal combined with a strong antibiotic, but I always suggest medicine. Others will suggest natural methods. It is your choice.

I'm sorry your fish are not doing well.

Judging from your pictures and description, I am wondering if your fish are affected by Velvet. This disease can be confused with ICH initially, but it grows into what appears to be a film covering the fish.

Velvet is caused by a parasite, so you'd need to treat with an anti-parasitic product, such as QuickCure.

I didn't know velvet was a parasite; that makes so much sense! The fish look like they've got that parasite look, poofed gills and sort of stretched out and stressed looking, but i'd never heard of a parasite that looked filmy like that. Thanks Dena!

Definetely sounds like velvet...

According to my research, this parasite thrives in light, and uses light energy.

I would recommend using an anti-parasite remedy, and couple this with no light. Seems to me that this has worked for many people. I'm not sure if it spreads rapidly, but I recommend quarantining this fish now! It could save you a headache and a lost cycle through meds.

I believe the velvet film is a result of how the fish's immune system is attempting to ward off the parasites. Kind of like how the ICH spots are caused by the immune system.

Interesting... I love how fish are not simple creatures

Oh, also forgot, talking about immune system. Soak your food in garlic or feed it crushed garlic - this will help strengthen immune system functions

Ok, so I don't want to look "dumb" but can you guide me to the process, I only had the 29 gallon tank in which all the fishes are. Can I put the medication in the tank without the others been harmed? What does it mean losing my cycle? Will the medication solve the problem or we are just hoping it does? Please Help!

Do you have a quarantine tank, or something like a tub that can function as a tub? Something like this?

That's great news! Use it!!

Place the fish in there and medicate with whatever u deem necessary. That way you won't lose your cycle in your 29 gallon. And you also don't have to medicate other fish stressing them out unnecessarily

My black angel got a slimy coat when he was acclimating, I treated it with QuickCure, and it was gone in a few days. Continue the medication a little longer, because it kept coming back after I stopped it. Good Luck!
