Devastation At Two LFS This Week.

There were 2 devastating losses at two of my LFS this week.

In the first case, the store lost almost $10,000 in corals a few hours after replacing their carbon. They had been using the same carbon for years with no issue but they suspect they got a bad batch. Other fish keepers are reporting similar problems. The product is Kent carbon.

In the second case, the LFS lost almost their entire reef setup. They are suspecting someone added copper into their system which is DEADLY to all inverts.

Sad stories.

 

Oh wow, that's bad. When you say they suspect someone of adding copper, do they think it was accidental or intentional?

You know what I know right now, but I think saying it was accidental is far fetched IMHO. Perhaps it was a disgruntled customer or even sabotage by another LFS. Who knows.

 

Even with as little as I know about marine inverebrates keeping, I know copper is a no no.
I have doubts it was accidental.

 

there has been cases that has been recorded that people have purposely added chemicals into LFS tanks, its very sad because it just ruins all the hard work the owner has put and more saddening to find out if its a private run business.

Copper is fine if you only have fish. Once you have coral, snails and shrimp then copper becomes a problem.

I am sorry to hear that story. What a financial devastation and a heartbreak too. You get so attached to the tanks.

 

Why on earth do people do that? Because they can?

 

Could have been a rival LFS person, or a customer who felt wronged, as was said. Hopefully it wasn't just because they could.

Horrible story......people can be so mean.....last year at my LFS they had a ton of problems.....someone kept coming in ramdomly and taking fish from tanks and putting them in other tanks...it always happened when the store was real busy...at first it was kind of un-noticable then it got worse they fineally put cameras up so thankfully it stopped.

 

Wow, that could potentially force them to close. That stinks.

 

My lfs keeps there expensive things up high. And all there filtration is kept in cabinets needless to say there service is so great and there are no fish stores close by except for one which treats less valuable fish like goldfish or neons like petco. Needless to say they may have a better selections than my ma and pop store but my ma and pop store. Are one some good friends. Treat their customers like friends. Will order most fish for me. And what should be a 30 minute trip for me turns into two hours of talking and helping customers find fish. Actually about 2 years ago they caught someone dumping mollys into the molly tank because they couldn't keep them

 

People are amazing. They will do some horrible things so brazenly. We have a ma and pa store about 1/2 hour from my house and they are wonderful too. They will do almost anything for you.... the only thing is they don't have a warranty on their fish, so if you get a bad fish per chance it is on you. Maybe it should be if you pick out a sick fish.

 

People continually disappoint me....which is probably why I prefer animals.

 

People are amazing. They will do some horrible things so brazenly. We have a ma and pa store about 1/2 hour from my house and they are wonderful too. They will do almost anything for you.... the only thing is they don't have a warranty on their fish, so if you get a bad fish per chance it is on you. Maybe it should be if you pick out a sick fish.

They have a 24 hour guarantee. But if it's because of your water they won't refund it. No sample no refund

I'm so sorry to hear that a store had this issue. Its a shame to hear that someone would take their agressions out on another creature just because someone else is better than them.
