Decisions.... Starlight Or Galaxy?

My LFS is having trouble getting me a starlight bristle nose. He did get some galaxy plecos in. Do you guys think there's any reason I shouldn't chose a galaxy over a starlight?

Is your tank and other fish ok with either? If so as long as the one Pleco wouldn't overstock I don't see a reason not to get the galaxy Pleco instead. Unless your heart is really really set on a starlight

What sort of setup is it? Galaxy plecos get quite a bit bigger than BNs (10" or so, if I remember right) and they like a strong current.

Oh boy. Heheh. You could always be more patient and wait for a starlight. Do you know why the LFS hasn't been able to get one? Are they more rare than a galaxy?

Hey Dave75g, I know you've been wanting a starlight BN for a while now. Might be worth considering a galaxy, if your tank can accommodate a plecos that size.

My experience with both my starlights is that they are extremely shy even when they've hit adulthood, and spend most of their time hidden.

I actually find myself enjoying my albino BN a ton more than my two starlight, just because I actually see my albino lounging around, or just sneaking around the tank.

I have three BN's in two tanks and feed them their veggies, fruits and all food in back of the glass on the front of the tank all the time. As a result mine are out and about all day , in between food coma naps. Dave75gal I would go with the one you have your heart set on, otherwise you will still be wishing you had one, At least I wouldAlison

It's a 75 gallon with a little too much current. I have trouble putting my plants in certain places because they tip over. Set up is not the problem. I can see myself getting a galaxy and 2 weeks later he gets a starlight in.

Could you order a starlight Pleco online? Or have the LFS order you one in?

I ordered fish on line once and got 8 dead corys for a small fortune. My LFS does order fish for me but he's having trouble finding a starlight. Acording to him there's a high demand for plecos right now.

Try your local CL, there's a lot of pleco breeders in NY.

I ordered kuhlI loaches on line from Trinsfish . com, They guarantee live arrival, All 6 arrived healthy active and very well packaged, in clean water. You could check to see if they carry them or can order one for you. You could also place an add in Craigs List to see if anyone has one for sale. Another idea is to check for fish clubs around you where somebody may have one for sale or know where you can buy one. Alison

I've had a friend just order Celestial Pearl Danios on eBay from a seller in Ohio and she lives in California and all 6 arrived alive and so far healthy.

Corys are hard to ship, they can put out a toxin when stressed and kill everyone in the bag. The should be packed 1 or 2 per bag. that way you will only lose 2 at a time instead of the whole bag. I've bought lots of fish online maybe in the 200 plus range, and have lost under a dozen fish, all of which I got credit for. I just saw six F-1 starlight go for $43 recently! The shipping is the costly part, and to ship 1 fish is not cost effective. You might want to look up plecos4sale in Ontario, NY. I've bought fish from them with good results.

Yea I know but they shipped all 8 in 1 bag with about a cup of water, then wouldn't honor there return policy.

That's messed up! What a rude person. Shouldn't even be handling any sort of service. Ggrrrr.

I have heard good things about trinsfish, the person aliray mentioned from other people on here.

Would it be o.k. to share the name of this "fine" establishment so folks here can avoid them?

No I'm not gonna ever order fish online again. That pet place.com had great reviews and a great guarantee. Howevere they didn't honor it. From now on I want to see my fish before I pay for it.

Have you been to that store Dave? If not I think it is worth the drive. We have been and drove over two hours and it was well worth it. A lot of people have issues with the online portion but I would suggest going in the store

I have heard the store is great, but from my point of view that business owes me 60 bucks. They never made good on it. Why should I give them more business?

Your welcome. Unfortunately you always pay for bad experiences, in some way. I still ended up getting my corys from my LCF .

Understandable. I prefer to buy in person myself. Both animals and their food and toys.

Heh... now *I* want one, too!! But I will have to wait for my next life - my hubby is dead set against MTS, and there's no room in my 55 gallon for another pleco. But yes, the starlight is one beautiful fish!

BTW, from reading through here, I just realized that HP Lovecraft is a girl! She just has whiskers around the edge of her mouth... I'll keep the name though, I don't think the real HP would have minded much...

Exactly! I will only have the 55 gallon and I'm not able to have another big tank for the same reason as you. Hehehe. So only one Pleco for me.

Aww, yeah keep the name. I don't think the original would mind at all. Heck he would like it probably
