Dear Old Miyuki....You have Arthritis

My these past few weeks my 10 yr old Akita MiyukI has arthritis. We have been encouraging her to walk, and giving her the prescribed med.
That poor little dog didnt get to be socialized since she was a pup. She was my uncle's pup and as much as that uncle is my favorite, he didnt properly take care of the,. Ot was always the household , either help or the family, who would take care of her. He was owner by name, but not by care. When she was scratched in the eye by a cat, she started to kill every last one that came her way.She was caged up for 4 yrs, then when I g ot my russell terrier who I won't repeat his story as I cry whenever I mention him, she got a chance to be out of the cage. After Monty the russell terrier left she was still outside the cage, but....alone. That was around 2011 to, the late 2013. To prove myself worthy of taking care of a dog, I took on MiyukI as my own. After Monty I didnt want another dog as it gave me so much memories, but I just really lobed these fur balls. MiyukI was my pet. I fed her, gave her a bath. Spent time with her, gave her water . She is the reason I even got my Teeker dog. Had it not been for MiyukI I may not even have my Choco lab Teeker. Fast forward a couple stray cat deaths, limp legs , tick infestations and a bunch Teeker play fights, she now has Arthritis. She can't move much and the only thing that drives her to stamd is to poop, pee, eat and walk. But she can't even walk far because ot would be bad for her.

Now she is getting better, and quite active. Still has arthritis, lying down all day but now she stands up fro no reason, or maybe to bark at a cat on our wall.

Well she just barks. As stated earlier she aint really socialized with other people yet that much. MiyukI actually doesn't like stramgers touching or calling her. The dog you are referring to Aphrodite is Teeker lol

Oh well, are you going to try socializing her at this age?
And yeah, at least Aphrodite is shorter than Born This Way Bettas!

Well at this age, ot would be nice, so I am trying. The thing is she is a true "guard dog". And that is something we need.

If you really want a guard dog I doubt she'll lose her guarding instincts because she can get along okay with other people.

Nah. Even the pool cleaner she doesn't like. She only likes the household help, my parents, my grampa and my uncle. She barks at anyone not us

But she hasn't shown any aggression? Our dog used to do that. She'd just bark and bark but wouldn't attack anyone.

Well she carefully walks up to the person and barks at them when 10 inches close

Oh yeah, as long as she just barks you're fine imo. Of course, other people might get a little nervous with such a big dog barking at them, but at least she won't let any trespassers go unnoticed!
