Deal ? Did you indulge in a Black Friday sale ?

Soooo….

I’ve been wanting to upgrade my 55 gallon tank they have HOBs now and the chewy. Com had 50% off marine land 360 canister AND buy 2 get one free. Let the filtering begin. They may not be top of the line but at under 80$ per unit it’s a major upgrade to my topfins and I can hand them down to my 40 gals as they have adjustable flow (and I have lots of media for them) so every tank wins Lol Did anyone else find a great deal or just justify something cool?

Yeah...it is hard to turn down getting 20 and 29 gallon tanks for $25-35 brand new. I can't imagine trying to get tanks anywhere else than the US.

No, not this year.

But only because Petsmart had a good sale on 20 gallon kits a few weeks ago. 40% off. They were the same price as the Black Friday sale last year. So I didn't bother waiting, and picked up a couple. I was happy to beat the rush.

The new tanks are cycling in the basement now, and will hopefully be filled with guppy fry in the new year.

Jeez.... want to make me any more jealous?

Just had a look at the best I could find was 15% off - £76.49 (instead of £89.99) for a 60 litre....

I hear Canada is pretty insane, too. Got a friend up there who used to breed guppies. She wants a certain size tank, but says way out of her budget. One that is relatively inexpensive here. I can't evem wrap my mind around it.

So who's helping me emigrate to the US?

I could even leave the family behind and fill their would-be rooms with cheap tanks!

Come on, though I don't know how much you'd appreciate the weather in southeast Texas. I knew a lady years ago who had emigrated here from England and complained that we only have two seasons here: summer . . . and February.

That sounds like my worst nightmare. It's sitting at around ~2C here at the moment, and it's my favourite time of the year - I hate the heat, love the cold!

I got the 75 Gal ensemble over the weekend. The best price I saw was 249, with a coupon I got it down to 209, Also picked up a Fluval canister filter for half off.

Then you definitely wouldn't be happy here. We sometimes go several years with the temperature never getting below 30° F, and it constantly swings up and down during the winter. Below is a screenshot I took of the local television station's long range forecast a few years ago. While temperature swings that drastic aren't common, they aren't all that unusual either.

Did you mean 30°F or 30°C? 30°F would be perfectly fine for me haha :)

I'm Canadian, and yeah prices are certainly higher here than the US. Its not terribly bad if you stick to the common standard sizes. After currency conversion, it usually works out to roughly double what American's would pay. And getting anything special or non-standard gets worse.

But I'm not complaining, I like living where I live for a lot of reasons that have nothing to do with the cost of aquarium supplies. And I've always found that space and time limit my hobby more than money anyway.

I didn't do to much black friday shopping. Although I don't think its a big of deal here in canada as it is in the states.

-10g tank kit 89.99(reg119)
-50w heater 26.99 reg(38.99)
-wireless headphones 29.99 (reg 49.99)
-3 hats for 12.99 each reg (25.99)

I don't think my petsmart sold many of the fluval canisters as the shelves were fully stocked still when I went there yesterday.

Probably because we had Thanksgiving weeks ago.

That’s one of the main things I’ve noticed since joining the forum - just how much cheaper things are in America, or rather how expensive things over here in the UK. There’s no such things as dollar per gallon sales, half price fluval canisters etc. You might get a few quid off every now and then but generally prices stay around the same.

As an example, my newest fairly standard 33g tank was the equivalent of around $465 (not including the filter which would be another $165 on top of that) - you can get a complete 55g kit from petco today for under $200!

Black Friday over here is a relatively recent introduction, but most of the time the deals are a bit of a scam. I was tracking a particular item and on the Friday it was £90 as part of the Black Friday promotion - only problem was that it had been £70 on the Wednesday before! There are some deals to be had, but you have to really want or need the product in the first place.

Sounds like in the US there are genuine savings though.

I was real tempted on lights for sure. I want a full 48”… I got the 36-48… mistake.

three filters was enough ! so sorry not as good deals in other places :(

petstore starter kits are not a bad deal but lot of wasted stuff imo. I bought a couple and the tanks are pretty much only thing being used. Tanks are plentiful and if your willing to go used … well then there are lots of options at least around me. Fluval lighting and certain other high end stuff i have not seen many deals on. And the filters I got were not a “great” deal except that I could use the buy2 get one thing.

fun to hear others experiences!

Made the mistake to go to Petco as they opened..I was already too late for the 125gl tank, they were gone statewide within minutes.
Next time I will go online at midnight :)

I picked up a few items from KGTropicals...they had 15% off, so I picked up a few varietals of Xtreme fish food and a couple of Hygger sponge filters

Unfortunately, in the UK, you either get fake deals (like the one you mentioned), deals where the product has been specifically made to sell at the discounted price (bonus if someone buys it at the elevated price a few weeks beforehand!) or the "proper" deals where companies actually limit the stock, but people visit the store in the hope of "grabbing a bargain" only to find it out of stock and buy something else.

It's all a marketing ploy, just like Boxing Day deals.

Better than PA, but probably closer to what he's used to! Brrrrr it's cold, but I'll be out there walking at 9 am, pretending I like it!
Afraid my only discount was 20% off some plants yesterday. Now have to get a 10 gal tanked cleaned and filled today and get gravel rinsed. Ugh, and get some dragon stones cleaned, that's a job!
