Dead Tank

I have a 30 gal freshwater community tank. It housed a few platies, 1 clown pleco, and a couple mollies. They started to slowly die off and I have now lost all of them. I initially thought it was ich because of visible white spots on them. I treated the water with quick ich...for 2 days as the bottle suggested. It seemed to fix the problem until they started dying again... this time I noticed the dead fish were covered on thick whitish/clear slime...

Can anyone tell me what this probably is? I'm scared to get new fish now....

Do you have any pictures of them?

How long has your tank been up & were you completely cycled? Water parameters?

What do you keep your temp at?

I did not take pictures before I got rid of them unfortunately...

The tank has been up for about a year and a half. Yes the tank was completely cycled, or so I believe. Water parameters are as follows:

Gh 180
Kh 240
Ph 7.5
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 20
Ammonia 0 or 0.25 (hard to tell...kind of in between)

I keep my tank at a temp of 78°F

Where did you see directions to treat for only two days? You would have to continue treatment for longer than that to eliminate ich.

Was the original white spots tiny - like granules?

When I had ich I treated it - but then my tank developed a columnaris & I quickly lost most of my fish due to that.

The slime can just be the bodies decomposing... I am not sure if that will give you a clue as to what your tank is infected with.

Did you get a chance to read this article from Fishlore about Ich? Ich: An Old Cure for an Old Disease

I wouldn't add fish for a few weeks while you clear the ich out of your system, and after that, the next thing to consider is your source for fish. Are there fish at the store showing signs of illness? Most stores have all tanks connected to the same filtration so that means if there is one sick fish, all the fish have been exposed.

I hope you get this figured out!

Yes tiny white granules along body of fish... ok... well too late for me sadly... guess I'll do a complete water change and treat for ich with more medicine before adding new fish. Thanks

Yeah my only local pet stores are petco or pet smart unfortunately...all have a continuous filtration system...
