Just bought these last night, we knew one might die because he missed the bag but what is this red spot its like this on both sides
  2. MatthiasfanuValued MemberMember

Is the red around the gills?

I'm not sure where your asking opposed to where you can see in the picture?

Do you know if the tank was cycled? How big is the tank, and is it heated?
  5. HappiestCamperWell Known MemberMember

    The other side

That looks as if the red is around the gills which could indicate ammonia burn. What are your water parameters? How long has your tank been set up and cycled?
  7. HappiestCamperWell Known MemberMember

Yes its heated and yes it was cycled. The other three are doing great and even with the two dead this is the only one red.

    Im testing my water now

    25 gal

Edit: so im back it looks like there was an ammonia spike to .25
Nitrate still zero and nitrate about 10.

Im not entirely sure what happened there.

Boyfriend says one was dead this morning (the one who we were told might die) and one looked almost dead. (The one with ammonia burn)

^ i just edited that post with parameters. Im going to go do a water change with prime.
  10. TexasDomerFishlore LegendMember

    How did you acclimate them?
  11. HappiestCamperWell Known MemberMember

15 min in the bag and adding snall amounts of tank water to the bag every 15min till the bags pretty much just tank water

How long was the ride from shop to home?
  13. HappiestCamperWell Known MemberMember

Other than a water change with prime what do i do to remedy this situation?

What is the pH and temp of the tank? Could've been the ammonia if the pH and temp were high enough. Could also have been the stress of the move to your tank. Corys can also release deadly toxins when stressed so that might have occurred when they were in the bag.
  15. HappiestCamperWell Known MemberMember

    Ph is around 7.4
    temp is 77f
    The ammonia was at .25
The ride to the house was like 40min
And in the bag one already seemed like it wasn't doing well but i assumed that was the one who missed the bag.

Do you know what day the shop gets their shipments of fish in? The stress of shipment, adjusting to a store tank, then being scooped out, traveling, and thrown in another tank might have been too much.

What do you mean by "missed the bag"?
  18. el337Fishlore LegendMember

Ammonia wouldn't have been toxic at those levels. I would say it was the stress and/or injury since you said it missed the bag at the store.

Do you think they'll still take the return then?

These little guys are so little and cute Im pretty bummed:/ hopefully the other three continue to do fine

I don't know what days/times they get shipments.

By missed the bag I mean, when he set the bag in that plastic thing they use when theyre netting the fish, one missed the bag and landed in the plastic thing.
  20. FahnFishlore VIPMember

Ah, I thought you meant he landed on the floor.

I'm guessing it's most likely stress related. If they have a return policy I'd take advantage of it, and ask what day of the week they usually receive orders.
