Hi all!

After a really difficult cycling process i finally got my guy! I named him Aunduril (any LOTR nerds out there?). Anyway, he seems to be doing well he's eating and active. I did a WC this morning. My question is when do i know the difference between an active betta or abnormal betta behavior/movement. attaching a google drive link to it:

Thank you!

My, what a beautiful boy! To me, it looks like he might be chasing his reflection or something. Was he doing this for a few minutes, or constantly for the last 3 days? And also, can you post your tank details? ammonia/nitrite/nitrate/size/temp/tankmates

Thank you! Yes! for a few minutes. he's done it a few times in short increments. i think i might just be freaking out. it's a 10gallon planted with a nerite snail. it's been cycling for a long time but i there are some very small traces of ammonia - so much so that it might be the API test. with that small amount of ammonia i've been treating with prime and and adding some extra bacteria i had. Nitrite is 0, nitrate was fairly high but i just did a WC. Temp is 78. for what it's worth 0 he's been eating his meals (a variety of pellets and frozen brine shrimp/blood worms).

Edit: looking closely it looks like he was eating some kind of worm or critter in the tank. i'm wondering if he was just excited from hunting

My betta does similar things. Was this when you were nearby? If so, he might just be excited to see you. Whenever I’m near, he’ll go up the glass and move up and down. (With a little mouth opening).

thank you! I will just calm down lol. I'm so paranoid about water quality and i think i just need to relax about it a little.

I’m just the same, my betta is having problems now too. His tail hasn’t healed from fin rot for eight months! Every time I see something different happen with my betta, I completely freak out! I once was taking my fish out of water using a fish net and he suddenly went still! I still to this day never use a fish net, because I’m too paranoid lol! We should all care about our fish and remember they deserve as much care as any other pet.

He just looks like a happy boy to me. My girls would get excited like that too... but it was more of in anticipation for food. He's gorgeous btw
