dalmation molly with pop-eye died

I have 1 QT male molly (away from the pregnant molly in my 55 gallon), and 2 new mollies in a 10 gallon. The 2 new ones are isolated because they are new. Both female, 1 dalmation and 1 black.
Yesterday I noticed the dalmation molly had pop-eye. I ran out and bought Maracyn Two and used it last night.
Woke up this morning and dalmation molly was dead. The other 2 mollies seem fine, should I continue using the Maracyn Two on them just in case?

Now, I have noticed for the past couple days the 2 female mollies in the 55 gallon are acting sick as well. One is gold the other is silver. They both look like they're dirty to me, like they were rolling in dirt. The white/silver one had 2 white spots on her tail fin. So I have been using Mardel Biospheres for Ick, Velvet, and other parasites. I am pretty sure it's ick but I have no idea why they look dirty, they are both hiding and not coming up for food like they used to. They used to be the first ones right there whenever I was at the tank. Wagging there tales looking at me. Now they just hide behind my house decoration at the bottom of the tank.
what could be wrong with them? I have no idea. Oh all the numbers were good except the nitrites were very high. Did a water change last night and started using the Ick medication. Is there anything else I can do?
I don't want to lose any more mollies!!!
I can't believe how sick they are getting when everyone was doing so well for so long.

Please read the nitrogen cycle. This is why your fish are not doing well. They are dying because of ammonia and nitrites in the water.
I am sorry your fish are dying and it is sad. We have all been down that road.

Please go out to petsmart and buy some Tetra safe start and a API master test kit. You really NEED these.

Do a large water change of just enough water for the fish to swim in. Add your water conditioner and wait 24 hrs and add your well shaken bottle of safestart,( if tank is 10 gal, get the bottle for a 30 gal.) You want to overdose safestart, not under dose.

After safestart is added, do NOTHING but feed very lightly for 2 wks. No waterchanges, No testing, No vacumming.

After 2 wks is up, test your water and if your ammonia and nitrites are not 0 then you need to do partial wc's of 30-40% everyday until ammonia and nitrites are reading 0 and hold at 0.

If your nitrites are high, that is very bad for the fish and it explains why they are NOT doing well.

Please if possible, try NOT to use any chemicals at all in your tanks unless absolutly at the last resource. The less chemicals in your tanks, the better and healthier your fish will be. If its ick, all you need to do is raise the temp up SLOWLY to 86 degrees for 2 wks. Leave it at 86 for 2 wks even if they look better. Also vacumme those spores that ick leave behind!

If you don't get the safestart, then go buy PRIME water conditioner BUT you will have to do DAILY wc's until your tank cycles and your readings are all 0. Nitrates may not be 0 but should be under 20.

Good Luck!

It seems that you do not know the nitrogen cycle. Please read it, as it is essential for fishkeeping.
Good Luck!

My guess is the same. If you have to, use some water conditioner to detoxify the ammonia, but only if the levels are really high. Do daily WCs until the levels are under control and monitor your nitrites and nitrates. They often spike when the ammonia goes down because the bacteria is converting the ammonia into nitrites, which are turned into nitrates. Nitrites are even worse but nitrates are harmless in small amounts. Sorry about your molly!

Thank you, yes, we didn't know anything about the cycle info before we started. Hubby is out buying Tetra safe start and a API master test kit, and we're doing everything you said to do. Will this get rid of the Ick? So I don't need medication for that anymore?
This morning both mollies in the 55 gallon tank were out in front of me wanting food. I don't want to lose anymore of my fishies!
I thought my fishes were happy since one of the corries laid eggs
thank you for all the help and advice!

SO should I do the same in my 10g. The female black molly in there had more white spots yesterday. Such problem fishes!

thanks llllllblader, since hubby bought safestart for up to 75 gallons and is going to use it on our 55 gallon and overdose it, I'll have to take care of the ich in the 10 gallon some other way.

Will the huge water change get rid of the Ick? So I don't need medication for that anymore?
Male Gourami seems better, mollies seem a little better, lost 2 cories so far. Thankfully we didn't have that many fish in there. This is going to take a lot longer than I thought to have the perfect aquarium that I wanted.

2 more cories are dying, mollies acting sick. Is it because of the huge water change? Going to lose all my fish.

We put in the Tetra Safestart today. 3 cories seem a bit better, Gourami is acting better, but the 2 mollies are hiding in the back bottom of the tank. Should I treat them with some parasite guard and maracyn two? Just in case it's a parasite or bacterial problem, wouldn't that help them?
Would it hurt the cories? I need help, I have no idea what to do now.

Be careful of medication and corys, they are scaleless fish and sensitive to medicine and water conditions. Medication should say in the package if its not safe for them.

I would be very leary adding meds so soon after adding Safestart. The meds may kill the SafeStart bacteria.

OK thanks, that's probably why the cories died after DH put in colder water
I'm planning on putting the 2 mollies in with the 2 mollies in the 10 gallon if they still seem sick in a couple days, then I can give all the sick mollies medication. The 3 left over cories don't seem sick (so far) and mr. Gourami seems OK so how does that sound? Sorry for being such a pain!! I just really really hate to see fish die
Thank you so much again.

It's 2 weeks today!! Have the API test and the results are PH 7.6
Amonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 5.0

Is this good? Is my tank cycled now?
When I have a cycled tank and know about the nitrogen cycle, how do I change it in my profile?
So where do I go from here?
weekly tests/bi-monthly small water changes?
Glad the Safe Start worked!

Also I have a bunch of bladder snails (unwanted) that I'm trying to get rid of, could that be causing the higher PH?

Congratulations on being cycled!

Snails should not effect your pH in anyway, but pH can effect snails. Too low and there is not ebough calcium in the watre and their shells start getting thin. BTW there is nothing wrong with a pH of 7.6

You can access your aquarium info by clicking "My Settings" at the top of this page. Then once on the My Settings page click "Edit Profile" on the left side of the screen. Once on that page scroll down to the heading "Additional Information". You can make the necessary changes there.
