Dad's done a "heat of the moment purchase"

Hey Fishlore!

My dad has done it again and has bought a fish out of random. Last time it was catfish that didn't go down well, this time a betta. -_-

(though it has to be said it's a pretty nice betta for £4.99)

His "amazing idea" is to get the Fluval ChI he always wanted and keep it in that. Personally I don't like the tank because it seems a bit flimsy. But its his betta.

Anyways, he hasn't got the chI yet so we are keeping him in a breeder box until we get the chI and cycle it. Is this okay? Also, does anyone know what strain it is?

You've got a nice Super Red Halfmoon If you want to keep him in the breeders box, you'll need to pick it up and drain it several times a day. Bad stuff builds up quickly in them.

Thanks for the replies guys! Thanks AkarI for the ID, we were told it was a Delta tail, but I didn't think so. Yeah, hes pretty!

How long can I keep him in the box for until he definitely needs his own home?

Halfmoons will flare with their tail looking like a 'D'. Deltas will flare with their tails looking like a sideways 'V'.

A few weeks, provided you drain the box several times a day. I would suggest adding a small plant in there for him to hide in, if he'll be in there longer than a few days.

Okay cool, will java moss do?

that a really pretty betta. you could keep him in there for up to a week. you can take some media from another one of your tanks, and have an instant cycle.

java moss will work but anubias or something he can rest on or get under is good too.

that's what we are planning but it will be a bit over a week before we get the tank.

Lol, we were lucky getting it so cheap.

looks like it's almost a butterfly but to much red. a butterfly is 50% red and 50% white. I know those are called something..... over butterfly halfmoons?

I think it looks like Salamander color. I can't be sure from the picture but Salamanders have a purpleish Red Body and Red Finnage with White edging.

That's just the lighting, he's actually a more vivid red than that.

He has bought the ChI now, we are moving the betta in once the parameters have settled down.
