Hello! I set up my new tank about 3 weeks ago. I have established already that I have overstocked the tank (not for the tank size, but for the beginning stages). Anyways, just did a liquid api test for ammonia and it looks like it's between .25 and .50. Is this normal for mid stage of the cycling process? I have read ammonia during cycling is actually needed, yet I also read that it's just potent for fish... Any help from the experts is appreciated. Freshwater 46 gallon tank.

That's a pretty good amount for being 3 weeks in. What are the nitrite levels? Can't tell where you are in the cycle without that info. I would do a partial water change to keep it around .25 or less.

Thanks for responding! Nitrate around 10 and nitrite at 0. :/

I would also dose with Prime by Seachem since .25 ppm of ammonia is still toxic.
