Hey guys,

Ive got a 70 litre tank (recently cycled) with 3 swordtails (one pregnant) and my other tank Is 180 litres (un cycled cos of lack of knowledge) with a couple of Angelfish and clown loaches. Now I know I cannot put all the fish in my 70 litre tank but my question is.... I only have a 800l/h submersible filter in the little tank that I could put in the big tank, cos mostly all the bacteria a tank needs is in the filter etc???
I’m a little torn... but I don’t think I have many options and I need to act fast!

Thanks all

I would say you could take the filter media from the submersible filter and squeeze it into the big tank. This will come out weird brown stuff. This will transfer bacteria to the big tank and help it cycle. Keep up daily 30-50% water changes and keep testing until the tank is cycled.

How big are the angelfish and loaches? You could probably keep them in the 70l for a while whilst you cycle the 180l.
You should be fine for a while with your current filter, but I would put a sponge in the filter. They hold more BB than filter cartridges.
I would upgrade the filter in the future, and when you do, just move the media from the old filter to the new one and you won't lose your BB.

Thanks for that advice... I just took you up in that as I needed to do water change this morning. Let’s just hope it works!

thank you

How long does the bacteria from a cycled tank take to catch in another tank??
