Cycling My 5.5 G While On Vacation

HI all! After my bettas ten gallon’s silicon started breaking down, I moved him to a spare 2.5 gallon. Yesterday I bought a 5.5 gallon, but I go out of town tomorrow. I want to move him into the tank when I get back, in one week, so is there a way I can cycle it over a week without myself? I have prime water conditioner. Thanks!

Do you have the filter from when he was in the 10 gallon? Is it still running?

No, I go out of town a lot and the pet sitter in a panic dumped out all the old cycled water and threw away the filter cartilage. I guess I could use the filter from the 2.5 gallon

That should work fine if it is cycled. Before you go I would pit the betta, 2.5 gallon filter and 5 gallon filter all in the 5 gallon tank. The 2.5 gallon filter should keep the betta safe and the betta will provide ammonia to help the 5 gallon filter cycle.

Oh ok great, thank you. I’m glad that he’ll be able to be in the 5.5 gallon before I leave.

Problem solved! Can’t believe I didn’t think of this... I added most of the water from my fully cycled 29 gallon tank that’s has been established for a few months. My betta loves his new home! Thanks guys

No problem. I'm sure he'll be very happy in his 5.5 gallon.

the water won’t do anything for you, it has virtually no bacteria, it’s almost all in the filter.

Thank you for your concern. I also added filter media
