Cycling my 10 gallon tank

Hey everyone I had a quick question, I got fish in my tank but the ammonia levels are way to high, so I am going to take them out and give them to the local pet store so they can be healthy and happy. I have one question and that is how do I cycle a tank that has no fish, I know that my ammonia levels are so high that I might not have to put food in the tank but what else can I do to help the process go on smoothly. I also know that a cycle typically last around a month, or until the nitrate and ammonia are at 0 and the nitrite is bellow I believe .25 ppm, correct me if I am wrong. And I have 2 albino Cory's 5 neon tetras and 3 flame tetras. I know that that is way overstocked but when I get the tank up and running what kind of new fish like bottom feeders and stuff like that do you recommend? Or if there is anything else I should do before I give away the fish would be perfect. Thank you

I am currently using Dr. Tim's Ammonium Chloride to cycle my tank. I know others use Janitorial ammonia from ACE hardware. Just make sure that it does not have any additives to it. Dr. TI'm also has a good guide on how to cycle the tank.
I would also recommend that you buy a Master Test Kit, to test the water levels while cycling.

At the end of the cycle, as you stated, can take a month, sometimes more. you want ammonia levels to be 0ppm, Nitrite at 0ppm and Nitrate below 40ppm, most recommend around 20ppm. You had nitrite and nitrate mixed up.

I'm not a stocking expert (only just started the hobby myself), so I will leave that for someone else to answer.

Ok thank you so ammonium chloride will help cycle

Fishless cycling a tank with high ammonia

Hello I have a question about fishless cycling a tank with already high ammonia levels in it to begin with. I was going to use ammonium chloride for my fish tank and use good bacteria to cycle my tank, but I know that you have to dose the right amount of ammonia in the tank so the bacteria can live off of it. How should I go about cycling the tank, should I just use shrimp and wait a month or use the Dr tim's formula for the tank?

Best way to do fishless cycle

Hello I wanted your opinion on what the best way to do a fish less cycle in a 10 gallon tank. I looked at one of the really good threads on how to do the add and wait procedure for cycling your fish tank. I also saw that there was Dr. Tim's formula one and only and some ammonia for the tank. It said that the process only took around 14 days for it to cycle. I don't believe this, to is this true or do I have to do it for longer?
