17 days should be enough time to see some nitrites but it's still early days in the cycle.

I assume the tank has a filter with media? Airstone or surface aggetation to oxygenate water?

You are just starting to get to the point of seeing nitrites. Hang in there.

I have hang on back Cartridges filter.

Do I have to wait a month to see the nitrite?

It should be under a month till you see them. It took all my tanks 3 to 3 1/2 weeks to see nitrites
