Cucumber in tank developed a slime?

After reading several posts about cucumbers, I decided to try it. I bought an English (seedless) cucumber. Gave it a good scrub and attached did a quick blanching to soften and then clipped it to the tank. It was in for about 28 hours. The oto and glo-fish did come and nibble, but when I checked on it it had this murky, slime floating on and around it. Is that normal? I read that it was a pain to clean, but it also turned by water a little cloudy. I went ahead and did a water change to hopefully rid the cucumber remnants and lessen the cloudiness---but is the slime and cloudiness normal?

Yes, that is normal for having just had cucumber in the water. (I use ZucchinI just because it makes a little less slime, from my experiences.)

Fish are like humans in that each individual fish has its own personalized list of likes and dislikes when it comes to food. I would suggest trying zucchinI or squash. I assume you did weigh down the slice of cucumber, so that it laid on the bottom?

And don't worry about the seeds in cucumbers, zucchini, squash, etc. The fish will probably eat them too, if they are interested in the item as a whole.

Really doesn't need to be in there anymore than over night. It may take a couple of tries before they figure out that it's food.

I'd say make sure you slice a huuuuge slice so that the fish see this really big, obvious thing to try.

the poor fish will starve! :'(

 

OMG, the other day, I was looking for something to munch on but felt a bit silly opening a bag of crisps (potato chips for US?) by myself so I figured I'll just dice this nice zucchini, and dip it in soy sauce or something. I must tell you it was actually quite yummy but gave me some ... problems!

 

I think I'll leave the zucchinI for the bottom feeders then! :;a
