Crypts dying all other plants are fine

Has anyone else dealt with this before?

All my crypts are dying, no rhyme or reason in one particular tank. The crypts in my other tanks are doing just fine. I first noticed it about three weeks ago. I figured it was right about time to add some new root tabs, which I did. The last time I did add root tabs must have been 3-4 months before hand. Still no improvement and they are getting worse.

The last picture is about the time I bought the tank a year ago. I'm not sure how well the pictures show how glass like all, and I mean ALL the crypt leaves look like. I believe the tank set up as is, is some where right around 2 years old. All that is in the tank is a betta and about 3 or 4 RCS. I did treat my shrimp for vorticella with primafix, but the moss and other plants in the tank aren't dying off which you think it would. The crypts are the only plants affected.

It's about 7.5g with a Aqueon Planted clip on light. Not sure of what the heck the substrate is. I never could tell, maybe dirted with ecocomplete?

Any and all tips are appreciated.

Have you added anything or changed anything about the tank? New driftwood maybe?

Are you talking about the yellowish plant in the center of the second pic? Because that looks like a lily of some type (dwarf water lily?) which grows from a bulb which should be placed above the substrate initially and when leaves appear get put about half way in until roots hold it in place. My sister has those and they’re seasonal and look just like that. The leaves will die and they’ll seemingly vanish and completely die off but then reappear around the same time every year (for her anyway. I’m not super familiar with them but that doesn’t look like a crypt to me).

Nope, although the lily tends to have leaves seemingly vanish overnight. But it's crypts that worry in the background. Not very good pics and I am sorry for that.

I have had crypts drop every leaf before coming back to a reasonable plant again.

In my case I had a big change in stocking levels from a lot of fish to almost none. That was enough to change the parameters of the water.

Another explanation sounds to far fetched, but you can research this exact thing happening on many occasions to other people.
These plants are not supposed to be under water all year round in the wild. They should be on the forest floor that is flooded for half a year and then dry. They would in nature grow new leaves each time the are flooded and new leaves again in the dry season.
I believe the plants will grow a completely new set of leaves if you can be patient and not pull the roots out.

In short .

Yes it is a common thing to happen to crypts. Take your pick as to why its happened after 12 months but don’t worry about it.
