Crushed Coral As A Substrate

HI all
I have heard that using crushed coral has some stabilizing and buffering properties when used in fw tanks. I can't find much on the subject, could someone explain, and I'd like to know if coral would be appropriate in a Discus tank. Thanks a bunch!

Crushed Coral will not work in a Discus tank.
Discus require soft water of around 6.5 Ph, or less. The Crushed Coral will raise the PH and buffer it at 8.2 , as crushed coral is essentially Calcium.

Will crushed coral substrate work in a Brackish tank?
Puffer, Scat, Bumblebee, mollies and mudskippers are in the tank...

PH is at 7.4. Is a higher PH necessary for a brackish tank?
Salinity is at 1.0015 now....
