Creating Large Hill In Aquascape.

Hello all. I just bought a 55 gallon tank to upgrade from my 20 long. I'm planning my scape and I want to create a large hill or slope on the left side at least 6 inches high. I don't wan't to just pile tons of sand to that height as that could cause some problems down the road. I'm thinking of taking some mesh bags, filling them with large grain gravel or even lava rocks. Stack them to my desired height creating a rough "slope" shape then filling in with sand on top. Do you think this will work? Or have any better suggestions for creating a tall hill?

Plexiglass could work.

Make the crude shape of the slope out Andy pile sand on it.
With the mesh bag method, detritus and air bubbles can still become trapped and deadly..

What if, instead of using a mesh bag, you use a food safe plastic container or bag so that the air cannot escape and water cannot get inside to fester?

Mesh bag with lava rock is what Aquapros on youtube does. There are also some large gravel-sized aquascaping substrates for this purpose

My suggestion would be your idea, lava rocks in mesh or nylon bags, they also help with circulation in the substrate bed.

Edit: I was thinking of aqua pros too!

Thanks all! I was fairly sure the mesh bag idea wasn't mine and I had seen it before I just couldn't remember where. I just found an Aquapros video with basically the same method used. The 55G tank build begins next I'll post a new thread of the tank (and hill making) progress in the coming days.

Can you post the Aquapros video? What video specifically are you referring to for I am interested in making a "hill" also.

I use larger gravel to stack up the back of my tank for height too. It's good way to save on some aquasoil.
