This is such a diverse community that I thought perhaps some of you might have an insight. I have teens now, and they want purple, and blue hair. Wee tried Manic Panic, but it washed out extremely quickly. Perhaps I did it wrong-I'm accustomed to clairol hair dyes, in the Red spectrum. I'm not going to give up just because the first try didn't come out right, so I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a brand that works well

We have dark blonde hair as a base, so I know now that we need to lighten it- that was part of the mistake first time. What's a "bleach kit??" Or is there a better way?

Is there a brand that stays in better than Manic Panic?

Remove your filter from your aquarium and you've got a free bleach kit lol
Hair bleach is simply ammonia and/or hydrogen peroxide with some alkaline thingamajigs (that most likely contain potassium, sodium, calcium, or magnesium in some way like Sodium silicate) that lighten the hair for you/them. It's available as a powder that you activate, a cream/shampoo or simply liquid in a bottle and I'm sure the "kit" part refers to buying a set of all the necessary things all at once, like a 20G kit or something
Not sure much about specific brands that do purple and blue though, maybe Clairol or Garnier?

Well. What color is their natural hair? Manic panic is semi-permanent. So the more you wash it the more it will come out. I am guessing you purchased it at target, Walmart or sally’s?? If you do a pretreatment (from Sally’s) which opens up the hair cuticle then evenly apply the color (I like purple personally) and then use the post color treatment you might have better luck. You will also want to use cool water, sulfate free (color safe shampoo and conditioner) when washing hair to manage hair after you’ve dyed it. If you can skip washing it for a day or 2 and maybe on those days just wet hair and use conditioner to freshen it up chances are the color will stay even longer. Again, it is not a permanent color so 4-6 weeks is all you will get out of it.

Hope that helps

Above should work. Before you do it you might want to strip the old color out. It’s hard on the hair so you might want to wait to re color. I like to do coconut oil treatments. That is use warm coconut oil like “we” used to use VO-5.

Attached is a photo of my nieces hair I did this way.

I would use markers, but then again, I'm bald.

Bahahaha!!

Bleaching first helps, & definitely as Anna Score said, don't wash too often. Use cool water to rinse it out, & use shampoo designed to help color last longer (& sulphate free.. etc as listed above)

Here's my hair: called "Oil Slick" (purple, blue, teal, & gold-ish colors) it's kinda dirty in the second pic, sorry! I try to wash it as little as possible! The third one (with my hair up) was the very next day after I had it done, hadn't washed it yet (at all, other than rinsing the dye out), which is why my scalp still has color on it lol!
