Hey guys,
I recently got a 30-gallon tank and I put most of my fish + new fish in there, they were all in this small tank I had, I bought a white crayfish alone for that tank and I was wondering how often should I change the water in there? (non filtered) anything would help, Thanks!!

How small is the tank? It doesn't seem that you know the nitrogen cycle as it says on your profile, mattgirl is very knowledgeable on the cycle.

well the tank should be 5 gallons if I am not wrong but it is plastic and not glass and also I have this filter that is like a waterfall should that work well? And after a big amount of research I heard crayfish are very good at escaping so putting that filter could lead to it escaping, what do you think???

I am a firm believer in fresh clean water for any kind of water pets. I am such a believer I change out 50% of the water in each of my tanks every week no matter the size or stocking level and then once a month I change out more.

yeah I see, but what do you think should I do? put a hang on filter and change 10-20% every week or just change all the water every couple of days

I doubt that the crayfish would escape, I had crayfish for a while, but none escaped, just don't fill the tank all the way up.

Have you done any reading on cycling a tank? If neither of these tanks are cycled that is where to start. What you will be doing is fish in cycling these 2 tanks. Water needs to be changed more often than each week during the cycling process. What you need to do is keep the ammonia down as low as possible.

Take a few minutes to read This Thread. It explains what you need to do to keep your water pets safe during the cycling process. I will be happy to help once you understand what cycling a tank means and what you need to do to get both tanks cycled.

You do need a filter on the tank. It could be a HOB type filter or even a sponge filter.
