Crayfish lying on side, molt or no?

Last night, my tangerine lobster was a little pale. Other than that, he was climbing all over the place and active. Today I woke up to find him lying on his side. Sometimes he moves his swimmeretes, but not much. Is this a normal molt, or is something wrong? Went to check on him an hour later, and found him upright, completely normal, all his color back. What happened?!

can you show a photo and PH, ammonia, and nitrite + nitrate?
how large is the tank?
Molting is usually accomplished in minutes. The brittle exoskeleton splits between the carapace (head) and abdomen (tail) on the back side, and the crawfish usually withdraws by tail flipping. During the “soft” phase that follows, the soft exoskeleton expands to its new, larger dimensions

ph is 6.5, ammonia and nitrite 0, nitrate is 10. Last night, he was climbing all over the place. Tank is 10 gallons, and he is a juvenile tangerine lobster. Tech isn't cooperating, but he is laying on his side. Occasionally, his swimmerets move a little, and he waved his claw once. It's been over 20 minutes.

Nitrate is a little high you want it to be 0-5
The tank is too small They need 20g LONG
I think he might be dying.

I would do a water change and move him to a bigger tank.

Really? I read nitrates should be between 10-20 or the tank isn't cycled! Is it too late to save him?

nitrate if 10-20 then you need a water change
So for fish you want 10-20, but for crustaceans none? I do water changes weekly, he would've gotten one tomorrow. Is it a failed molt? Or something else? Could a water change save him?

a water change might save him it could be a failed molt
If a water change doesn't do anything I would feed her or him more calcium in his diet

I've been feeding shrimp king mineral and cuttlebone.
This got weirder. Went to check on him and found him upright, and the bright, neon color had returned to his body. I don't see an exoskeleton anywhere... and would he be this bright if he successfully molted? I'm going out of town tomorrow, kind of worried about leaving him after this.
Also, I can see the spot on his back where the exoskeleton separates from the body. The crack is there, but he is making no effort to push himself out. He is standing upright, alive, but not escaping the exoskeleton. Can I help him molt?

I don't know much about crayfish diseases but shrimp, have a "white ring of death"
its when they fail to molt and have a crack down the middle. They dont live after the ring shows so it could be that the likley hood of your crayfish living is small if its a white ring

I would move the aquarium around and see if you can spot a exoskeleton
when a crayfish molts it gets brighter for some time

Where the tail meets the body, right above the final row of swimmerettes, it's a white crack down the middle. He isn't moving much, but he is upright and colorful. Is there anything I can do? Remove it myself?

He is suffering. What caused this? Was he not fed proper nutrition at store and didn’t have enough stored? Failed molt?
