Crayfish HELP!!!

I got a blue crayfish about a week ago. He is in a 30 gallon tank with one other fish. I noticed him this morning and saw that he had molted...
1) Do they eat their molt?
2) I noticed that now he only has one claw the other is still in the skin, what would have caused him to "cut" off his own claw?
3) Can they grow their claws back?

Any info will help!

Also is there any way to tell if you have a male or female?

Crays will eat their molts, yes. Its good for them

Whatever happened to his claw, it'll grow back eventually, don't worry.

Take the remains of the molt that he didnt eat after a day out of the tank.

Also, a shortage of calcium and other minerals could have caused the claw to fall of. If you can find something to raise the calcium in a fresh water tank, it will help the claw grow back. It will also make the next molt go smoother!

welcome to the forum elroy

mine have always eventually consumed all of their molts - I see no reason to remove any of it. Is there one?

the claws are the last to be freed when they molt. If it was disturbed or threatened, it can drop the stuck claw in order to get free and to safety.

to sex them, you have to look underneath them. Between the 3rd and 4th set of walking legs, there will be a couple of pits on females - males will have a couple of tiny appendages. Google it for picture references - I would link but am on a phone.
