and if it is ich what is the best stuff to treat it at the most reasonable price?

ich will look like little salt crystals and is treated by raising the tank temp to 82F and keeping it at that temp. min. for 2 weeks. If you want to add a treatment: is a good product, safe for the fish and non-harmful to good bacteria.

do you have any pics? there's a chance it could be a fungus of some type. If so, would be a good product if it's not too bad.

White lower lip for my mollies = mouth rot. I always see it first on my black ones (I also have a white one for ID'ing other diseases early).

I've got this antI bacterial med (European, so won't be much help to you) that helps clear it. They unfortunately get it quite regularly, but it seems it's never harmed them (I always treated quite soon).

This is an interesting thread..I have a red jewel that has white across her top lip!!..wandering if its the same thing..I thought that she grazed herself while tending to her eggs as she layed on a rocked and ended up picking them all off ..Better check on that again.

Does the edge look neat or more shredded/tattered/fluffy? When I see fluffy, I start medicating.

I think my fish has got a fungus because its only one white spot. does heating the water cure that too if it is a fungus? or do I need a fungus treatment too ?

I treat fungus with meds, not temperature increases, but I don't know whether temp increases would do it too. I personally haven't heard they do. The good news with fungus is that (in my experience) pretty much the second you drop meds in, the fish is fixed up. I've got some really dramatic recoveries using the meds.

temp. alone usually does away with ich and the ich-attack is just something extra, but for a fungus you'll need a med. - this is the one that we use on fungus to start with.
