I actually have a 5.5 gallon tank, with sand as substrate and one betta. I would like to add another fish, but if I can't have anymore fish I want some ghost shrimp. What fish could I have in there with him? It has a Hydor Mini Heater, A penn plax small world filter, and an aqueon 5-20 gallon filter (padded so the current doesn't hurt my betta) What other inhabitants could I have in there?

I'm sorry but a 5.5 isn't big enough for anymore fish, just your betta.
Shrimp might work, but they might also become a yummy snack. You can try a snail (one that stays small)

I agree with Lucy, 5.5 is too small to add another fish, but snails are always good to add or some shrimp, but like Lucy said the betta fish might eat them.

i have a nerite in each side of the divided betta tank and they've done fine. i tried one in the plakat's tank, no way. he tried to eat its antenas and pick it apart. it depends on the betta. but plakat's are more aggressive. this one jumps out of the water for bloodworms....the other 2 are gentlemen. lol

The crayfish doesn't try to eat the betta (or vise versa)?

I went through a few crays before I realized the problem. The betta would eat them when the molted because I didn't have a small enough cave to keep the betta out. The crayfish is the size of a large ghost shrimp.
