Corydora has red splotches along side and tail

Carnelian5279

Hi there. I was just cleaning my tank and I noticed that my albino corydora has red markings covering her. At first I thought she had been attacked by one of my other fish, but I don’t think that’s it. I was trying to figure out what it could be, and came across something called Red Splotch Disease. I wanted to see what you guys thought before I figured out what my next step would be.

well from what i understand red blotch disease is when the cory gets a large red dot or disfiugred circlular patch and normally is larger then the markings on your cory, this leaves a couple options

1. a tank mate has tried to eat it
2. it has scratched itself on decor, rock, driftwood, sand?
3. it does have red blotch disease

The good thing is cories dont have scales, they have small folds of there skin which hardens as they grow creating an armour, so if another fish has bitten it it may not be so bad.

how big is the tank?
what are the tank mates?
could you please upload a full tank photo?

hope your fish does ok!

Right now, they’re in a ten gallon (I’m changing them to a 20 soon, but it’s still cycling). I have three corys, 5 ember tetras, and a female betta. I haven’t noticed the betta picking on any of them, but I have a empty 5 gal I can move her to if she’s hurt one of my corys. I just finished cleaning a little bit ago, so it’s still a little cloudy, but here’s my tank.
The only decorations I have in my tank at the moment are two fluval plants, a silk plant, some slate pieces, a few pieces of driftwood, and a few live plants.

ok nice tank, i think you need to push the themometer down a bit so its under water or fill tank up a bit more. that stocking isn't too bad in agression so i dont think anything would be attack the cory, the rock stack in the middle has me thinking the cory has scratched itself along it.

Hope somebody else can assist you too, good luck

Ok thank you :) I can fill the tank up a bit more. She does like hanging around the arch, so if she scratched herself on anything, that’d probably be it.

Update:
She’s looking a lot better today! I’m gonna do another water change in a few minutes, to put a bit of aquarium salt into the water so it heals up as it should. But she’s definitely looking better, and she seems a but more active today.
