Cory Run To Surface

Ive always wondered this but how come corys are fine but then they quickly on occasion run to the surface and make a splash and then dart all the way back down and resume there normal day activitys but then in like another 10 mintues or so they do it again

 

I think it's just play. Cories, especially in groups are super playful little guys. I also noticed that they do this more when they are younger and smaller.

 

Well this explains why every time I go to the store the young corys I see are always doing this

 

They are getting a gulp of air. They do it on occasion because they can live that way in the wild with low oxygen in the water at times. If your cory is doing it extremely often I would suggest adding an air stone to help oxygenate the water a little bit so they don’t have to go up so much.

 

They'll do this when excited or worse when stressed. Often in well oxygenated water. Some species do this more often than others. My venezuelans often do this during feeding, my pandas and napoensis hardly ever.
