Cory fry trap possible?

I have a 5.5 green and pepper cory fry grow out tank and as the green corys are getting a bit bigger i'de like to move some to some other tanks the problem is the 5.5 is heavily planted and the corys are well fast as.... Does anyone have any tips on catching them without tearing all the plants up? This was something I was thinking about. If I took a water bottle and added some of their favorite shrimp pellets to get them into it then relocate the larger ones and release the smaller ones back to the 5.5. Does anyone think they would go for it or would they hide from having a water bottle in there? Thanks!!

It sounds like it would work.

I have thought about this very thing to try to catch some of the little speed demons in my tank. I have considered rehoming some of mine but then second guess myself and each time I consider it I change my mind.

I will do this when I finally take some of my pleco fry to my LFS though. I think it will be the least stressful way to catch them.

I did a big WC on the Cory fry tank last nite but didn’t try this out but will be trying it soon as the few big ones in there get a bit bigger.. maybe next weekend or I might try a larger size hose but that may stress them too much.

I have occasionally siphoned a cory up into my siphon tube. They come back out no worse for wear but I think your water bottle idea may be less stressful for them. My corys are the main reason I never walk away from my tank while the siphon is doing its thing.

I had that exact thing happen to me last night doin my 5.5... it was a tiny wiggler pepper Cory and it went through my airline/skewer contraption into a bucket so I used my turkey baster and got him back in the tank and it was just sitting on the bottom I felt real bad cause I watched the entire thing happen just couldn’t react in time... couldn’t find him this morning so hopefully he is ok and just hiding from being scared it happened to him

None of mine have had any lasting affects from their ride. Hopefully your little guy won't either.

Corys need to be able.to surface now and then. Sounds ridiculous but they can drown.

So be careful with this method

You are so right. I hadn't thought this through. If I do it though I would be right there and would pull them out as soon as they go in.

Yes exactly as mattgirl said I would be right there I wouldn't use it as an overnight trap or anything. I would just hate to tear all the plants up to catch a few of them to relocate as the tank is only a 5.5 but pretty heavily planted and corys are just a little fast
