Cory Died-red On Belly

I got home from work today and all fish were fine. Just went to feed them and this little Cory passed away. I was going to net him out and I noticed a lot of red on his belly. It almost looks like he is bleeding? I have no idea what happened here but I’m worried it will spread to other fish. Has anyone seen this before?

A few mystery and nerite snails.

It looks like a condition called Red Blotch Disease.

Is this contagious to other fish? I googled it and it looks like that’s what it was.

No only Corys. What did you feed it?

Just an update on my tank, I have things under control now, however, now that I think of it, both dead cories that were not dead on contact had those red blotches. I will have to keep an eye out on that. sorry for your loss.

A lot unknown about this condition but if it is that other Corys could get the same.issues. In fact not contagious to me, but if they'll be in the same conditions the could get the same.

Clean water and Melafix seems the only sollution (as said if it is that: keep.a close eye on the others)

This one looks thin / quite off color. Another less likely cause jumping in mind is worms.

It’s crazy because when I got home from work at about 5:30 everything was fine. Then went to feed them about 9:30 and he/she was dead. So far the others look fine but again this one seemed fine before. It seemed to happen very suddenly.

It is thought it might be due to nitritespikes on the bottom.

WTFish?

The cories I lost awhile back had this too, well one had fuzzy fins but the others had the red blotch. Apparently dead spots can cause nitrates to rise like Dutch said. I started testing the water from the bottom instead of the surface, there was still no change. BUT, just in case, I took out a few things, spread the plants apart, added a bubbler just to eliminate dead spots. I’ve not had a death since (knock on wood!) sorry for your loss.

That is eerily familiar... though one of my two that died had growths on him instead of the blotch within minutes. By the way, DoubleDutch, that tank is under control at the moment, still monitoring closely. The remaining cories are still fine, tank is nearing completion of cycling, I thought it was cycled. The test kits are reading good now, just gotta wait now.

Thank you everyone! Hopefully all the others will be okay. I’ll definitely get a bubbler and move plants around. Thanks again!
