Cooling my tank down

Now that the summer heat is finally approaching my tank temp has hit 90 degrees. What can I do besides daily water changes to keep my temp down?

Are ice cubes or ice packs alright? I have live plants that need their daily light and pulling the lid off is not an option.

Also my frogs are all floating at the top most of the day, tests are all ok, they just can't stand the heat. Prob the reason the one jumped out last week

Maybe lower the temprature down. I plan on getting a warmer one since my house is always cold. Maybe during summers I'll switch the heater out for a more lower wattage, but I'm interested to hear what others say.

Do you currently run a heater? If so, maybe you won't need to turn it on when its hot.
What is your current tank temp?

I don't have this problem, but if I did I'd probably use some of those sealed, non-toxic gel-packs you can get for lunch boxes. Get a few and rotate them out as they warm up in the water. The nice thing about those is that you can cool them in the fridge instead of the freezer so the temperature differential isn't as large. Make sure you're using the right size for your tank though, because you don't want to change the temperature too drastically.

There are many many threads on how to cool a tank down, you can try using the search tool to find more answers. One thing you can do is set up a fan to blow accross the surface of your water. Also you can take 2 liter bottles, rinse them with water, fill them with water and freeze them. Then put them in your tank.

I would run a normal fan

There are also special tank fans, but I don't know where you can pick one up. I suppose you can put ice cubes in a net or something, in the back of the filter- those would probably be effective, and not make the frogs too cold. Make sure the ice that you put in the filter is made up of the same water you use for your tank, so it doesn't have chemicals in it.

I would also add an airstone to your tank as well. Can you lightly leave your lid open, perhaps stick a pencil to keep it open a bit?

Is it also facing a window? Perhaps leave some windows open to get some ventilation and cool the room down.
