Hey guys I'm brand new to keeping fish and I want to get into it. However, I'm leaving for college soon and most colleges only allow fish tanks from 10-30g tanks so I was wondering if you guys could just drop an opinion on the coolest fish you can think of that would be ok in this size of tank thanks!

What kind of fish do you want?

For the 10 gal, Endlers are small, pretty, active little fish that would be a good choice. A pair or two of peacock gudgeon would also be neat.

I don't really know yet tbh, but I guess something that wouldn't hide all the time, or if it did, it would be fun to watch it when it came out TexasDomer

Guppies and platies would be a good choice then. They'll swim towards you whenever you come near the tank.

Ahh, so sorry! I didn't notice this was in the Saltwater section Not sure how easy a Saltwater tank in college would be for a beginner. I'd recommend FW, personally. Easier to setup and keep up in college.

Dwarf lionfish for a 30 gallon but if your new to the hobby you should always start with Freshwater way easier to handle

as he rightly pointed, i'd recommend a bit of experience with Freshwater before jumping into the Saltwater hobby.
SW requires more attention and maintenance and can be quite heavy on the wallet if you don't get things right the first time.

I would def start with Freshwater lol. esp in college. going from new to a nano Saltwater tank might be a bit much, esp since you will be preoccupied with college. it can get costly and it can be frustrating

I'm going to recommend a Betta! In the right setup, ie NOT a bowl, they are active and personable. They also have the ability to breathe some air so minor imperfections in the water quality won't be such a big deal to them. Obviously you want them to have the best conditions possible but as a beginner it will help to take some of the pressure off knowing that your fish can survive small mistakes as you learn
