Convicts Laid Eggs

so just 4 days after putting an actual male with my female convict they laid eggs! Excited to watch them grow.
So Sunday is my usual water change day. Should I change the water before they hatch so I don't disturb the fry? All my levels are good. Or should I not even mess with a water change?

 

I would say you shouldn't. Even if you removed the water from the opposite side, when you refilled it could potentially cause a water flow that blows the egg everywhere.
How big is the tank? Convicts aren't listed on your profile.

 

Just two in a 20 gallon.

I would recommend upgrading them, especially since they are breeding. But 20 gallons is still small even for two adult convicts. I'd recommend at least a 40 gallon.
Odds are you will have no surviving babies leaving them in the 20.

 

When I was researching breeding them I saw several people successfully breeding them in a 20 gallon. I don't have room for a 40 and I already had the 20. I have a 10 gallon up and running to put fry in. My understanding is convicts will take care of the fry for about 3 weeks at which point I'll transfer the fry.

 

That's true, but my mom bred convicts and her pair kept eating the babies until we upgraded them. They were in a 20 or 30 gallon. We upped them to a 55 and the babies started surviving.

 

I don't expect this first batch to survive. I hear it can take a couple batches for the parents to get use to taking care of the babies.
If it doesn't happen then I'll move to a different project. Wish I had the room for a 40 gallon!

Also frozen brine shrimp and crushed flake should be sufficient for the fry right?

 

I think we only had like one baby survive in the six or seven months we had them in the smaller tank.
We fed crushed flakes and crushed some dried shrimp for them.
