Convict Hybrid

I think I have a black convict/blood parrot cichlid hybrid.

Here's a pic...



See how it has the black convict cichlid's color? And the blood parrot cichlid's body shape? Weird. If it's not a hybrid, anyone know what's wrong with it?! Because to me that doesn't look like a full black convict cichlid.

He's much better looking, but still it's kinda cool to know I have a hybrid (if I do).

I actually got all of my black convict cichlids from PetSmart. I told the lady that I wanted four and it didn't matter which ones (they kinda all looked the same). Just my luck she gave me two females and two males, one of which was the hybrid.

 

That is so cool! So how large would that get if it's a hybrid?

 

I know male black convict cichlids get about 5", sometimes 6". And blood parrot cichlids get about 8". So maybe somewhere in between? I have no clue! It Will be interesting to find out though. Because right now, it's only about 2".

It is not a hybrid, it is just a young Bloody Parrot. They are born with stripes, as the species they come from is the Red Devil, which is born with stripes and changes color around 3-4 inches usually. If you look more closely, you can see the different shape of the stripes.Your last two photos also show that it is starting to "peel", which is what some people call it when a Devil or Midas starts changing color.

What you did get was a Bloody Parrot for Convict price. I suspect Convicts are a lot cheaper.

 

Aw, well that's a little depressing to tell you the truth! I was really excited. So will this fish be okay with the convicts?

And yea I only paid just under 5$/fish. And the blood parrots are around 10$.
