I’m planning on getting a juvenile convict cichlid for my 29 gallon tank and I was wondering how fast it should grow.

If you do frequent water changes and feed good quality food it should grow quite a bit in the first year. Males grow quicker than females.

Driftwood is great to have. Plants are good also. Not sure if the leave real plants alone though. They like caves also.

I should ask, have you cycled the tank? Don’t want to kill the little guy.

Ok don’t rush it. Better to take your time because it’s hard on the fish
