Converting My 150 Gallon To A Planted Tank

It's been a while since I last posted on here, but I am looking to upgrade my 150 gallon tall tank to a planted tank. I have read that different substrates can wildly swing your PH and other parameters for a while, which I'm afraid would stress out my clown loaches. Any suggestions on substrates that would minimize this, but would be great providers of nutrition? Right now I have play sand in there, so I plan on removing it around the outside and putting the new substrate around that to create some sort of aquascape... Also, I'm open to any suggestions for hardy plants that are good for beginners. I'm going to run a 6500k flood lights for lighting. Thanks as always everyone.

You could use CaribSea-Eco-Complete make PH adjustments with driftwood and mixed crushed corals... hardy plants could go with Anubias Nana, Amazon Sword, Water Wisteria, Lilaeopsis, Java Fern is very popular since it is low maintenance and very beautiful water lilies is option as well . Your lights is in minimum full spectrum as large tank as yours is lights might be not able to cover bottom tank you might want to look for dual fluorescent such Aqueon Floramax plant grow at least 7500k or go with LED 24 hours plant grow. most live plants will required liquid fertilizer some will feed from roots so they will need root tabs as much for advance plants Co2 be need it..

On a 28" tall tank you're going to need some pretty serious output. On a tank that size Finnex Planted+ lights would probably still be low-level lighting on maximum brightness. So, since lighting that beast would take some serious PAR output, I'm going to recommend the easiest plants that get tall as your background as well as medium-sized foreground.

Background:
Jungle Val
Anacharis
Hornwort
Water Wisteria

Midground and Foreground:
Dwarf Sag
Cryptocoryne spp.
Anubias spp.
Java fern

Centerpiece:
Aponogeton Ulvaceous
Amazon Sword
Dwarf Lilys

While many of these will require root tabs to keep the plants fed and healthy, you can dose weekly with a good comprehensive fertilizer like Easy Green or NilocG. Seachem Flourish is also a good trace element supplement.

Thanks for the list, is easy green the one by Cory?

Yes, although for a 150 you may want to order it by the gallon!

I use it on the 20 gallon I set up at work. It's pretty bright, I'd say medium-high on a 20.

On a 150 I'd say it's low-medium.

I think if the box is blue and says SKY is not good for plant the one with green box says ECO is good for plants ...

They list the Kelvin rating, the Fluval 2.0 Plant and Fresh is 7000K.
