Let's assume guppies survive the long slow process to full saltwater acclimation, which I have heard is possible... Wouldn't the damsels kill guppies?

Damsels are aggressive and they will most likely kill the slow moving guppies.

well then i will set up another salt water tank for the guppies as it is always fun to see the fresh water species moving comfortable in the saltwater aquarium

If you’re setting up a new tank anyway why not just set them up a freshwater tank? Why convert If you don’t have to?

Agree. Not worth the risk to the fish or the added expense of salt.
