Considering An African Butterfly Fish

I am considering buying a Butterfly fish for my 120 gallon tank. I have a lot of floating plants and food that I squirt into the tank often gets caught in the plants so he would have enough to eat. My concern is that some of my smaller fish, such as my Zebra Danios and Silver Tipped Tetras sometimes like to hide out in the plants and I am concerned they would be eaten. I don't think my Neon Tetras swim up to the top of the tank very much except during feeding, but then they would be very vulnerable.
If anyone has such a fish, how predatory are they?

I think as long as he's well fed, he shouldn't be *too* much of a problem.... Kind of like how they keep big sharks in with little fish at aquariums.

Do you have a very secure lid with no holes in it? They are very good jumpers.

Also I think he would most likely eat any small fish that came near him. They can be ornery like that.

It's definitely not going to hunt anything down. I kept mine in my 90 for a while, which has lots of small fish - it could really care less about the fish. They are too busy looking for insects to eat. Mine NEVER leaves the surface. I would not worry at all.

I've been trying to get some more, but they are seasonal and can be hard to find.

Thanks guys, it sounds like I am going to get him. I have a very secure lid on the tank and it's 120 gallons so my little fish can stay away if he decides to bother them. Don't think he will though if I have the same experience as you Jaysee. x

It's not the most exciting fish, but it sure is cool looking They LOVE insects - crickets are devoured, as will be anything you find around the house. They are a relative of arowanas.
