Confused with my bulbs

I bought some Aponogeton bulbs from walmart (cant remember or it didnt say which one). Anyway theyve begun sprouting green from one end. A good thing for sure. I'm just confused. The end sprouting green appeared to be the root end. It was sort of hairy on that end. should I just leave them alone for nor or bury the bulb or what?

The picture is horrible, but it gives you an idea. The sprout looks really white in this pic, but what do you expect from a cell phone? You can kinda see what I meant by the "hairy" end at least. ;D

if you're unsure, I would leave it above the substrate until you can tell if it's roots or leaves. at that point, go ahead and bury it.

hope that helps

I've read Aponogeton bulbs should be buried only halfway. The part with roots should be underground and the part with the crown (where the leaves sprout) should be facing the light. That's the best I can tell you.

My barclaya came out of a bulb like yours and what I did was I put it on its side kind of pushed it into the soil a little bit and I put a small rock on top to keep it down until roots went into the ground and got a hold. Then I removed the rock and it stays like that on its own. Don bury it to deep as you need water movement around the bulb or it will rot. The end that's sprouting right now is where both roots and leaves come out of except ones will go down and ones up. The bulb itself just lays there on its side like yours is. If you don't put a rock or something to keep it down and depending on your substrate the roots might lift it out of the ground. I hope that helps :;jk

hmm - I don't think apons work like that - or at least mine didn't - the roots and leaves came out of opposite sides. I just don't remember which side came out first :/

lol, thanks for the advice guys. Despite the confliction. Anyway Ive got 5 so I figure Ill Half bury some and leave some alone for a few more days and see what happens. These buggers grow quick, and I'm nearly sure now that what I'm lookin at is leaves.
