condensation on outside of tank

hI everyone

I filled a new tank with cold water from my tap. there are no fish in it or anything, just water. the outside of the tank is completely covered in condensation. I read online that this is just because there's a temperature difference between the water in the tank and the air in the room, but will this damage my glass in some way until it finally settles? it's been about 2 hours now with no change. heater set to about 79. very hot in my house today.

No it won't damage your tank and yes it's just because of the room difference, water can be very cold out of the tap. You can wipe the water off on the outside so it doesn't drip down.

Condensation is simply the opposite of evaporation. Molecules are having heat removed from them and changing from a gas to a liquid. There shouldn't be any damage short of calcium deposits which you can scrub off.

LOL, your glass will be fine. Just beware of wet wood.

You shouldn't get any calcium deposits, either, because the condensed water is the very definition of distilled water. It condensed from water vapor that was already in the humid, hot air in your room, thus it is pure distilled water.

If you see any deposits made obvious by the condensation, its all stuff that was there before, but just got rearranged by the condensation.

If your aquarium stand is metal or wood, it may not like getting wet from the water dripping down onto it, but other than that, it's all perfectly fine and normal.
