Concerning Beta glass surfing? (video)

Hello all. I've only had this Koi Betta about 3 weeks. He looks fine and eats well. Tank is 4 weeks old. It was instant cycled with media from my 55. Parameters 0 Am, 0 Ni, 20-25 Na. The tank is dirted, sand capped. Thrive dosed once weekly. 78 degrees. He doesn't surf like this constantly but definitely does the majority of the time. Before jumping into getting cherry shrimp I'm currently trying ghost shrimp to be sure the tank is shrimp safe and the beta won't go after them. Put 8 ghosts in 12 days ago, I've plucked out 3 dead ones and none dead in the last 6 days. Chalking the deaths up to ghosts usually coming from poor conditions so usually aren't the healthiest when you first get them. Video below, would you be concerned or carry on as usual?

Great looking fish. I bought an expensive galazy koi that was doin great in my 5.5 and then one day decided to try to jump to my 20 thats about 5 feet away. I would make sure u have a good cover and if possible get some floating plants with a decent root system unless the circles on the surface is a corral for floaters. maybe keep the lights on less for a week or 2 till he settles in a bit more. Just my thoughts.

That is a strong, healthy betta. Gorgeous tank too. Great video.

He's just patrolling his territory with lots of energy.

Enjoy your fish. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks all. I've just read blurbs here and there saying glass surfing can sometimes be a sign of stress in a fish. I guess as long as he's eating and looks fine I won't worry too much about it.

It's just your standard 10 gallon. They're real plants I took from plant trimmings in my 55. This 10 gallon was setup basically because of quarantine boredom, and out of spare/extra equipment I had in storage. It's meant to be low maintenance which is why I dirted it so I wouldn't have to do much to keep the plants healthy. Dirt and a decent light do all the work.

Thanks. I've actually got a new cover on the way right now and working on some DIY light stands. And yep you guessed it, those rings are to coral the Salvinia floaters I just added last week. I already see them spreading so I'm sure the surface tank will be covered soon. Which is what I'm after.
