Hi, I'm in need of advice. I've kept a community freshwater tank for the past few years, and I would like to upgrade to cichlids. The only two I have left are a .5 inch Julii catfish and a 5 inch African Leaf Fish. It's a 20 gallon tank. Is it safe to add a few cichlids? Thanks.

    What kind of Cichlids?

This is the first I've heard of anyone mentioning African Leaf Fish on here... do you have a picture of him? Find that very fascinating!!!

I would consider keeping the tank you have and possibly making it more of a biotope for the Leaf Fish..

Theres only a few cichlids that can be housed in smaller tanks, I'd also ask what your water Parameters are...whether you have acidic or alkaline water...

I'd try at least a 50 gallon for cichlid's, unless you went with something like Krib, they can be great fish but breed prolifically.

But I would be somewhat hesitant stocking cichlid's with a Leaf fish in such a small aquarium..

    Welcome to Fishlore! :)
