15 Gallon Tank Community Fish/Shrimp tank with algae

EAWT

I have a 16 gallon (60L) fluval spec. It is planted with java fern, anubias (various kinds), red root floaters, java moss, marimo balls, and amazon swords (see picture). In terms of stocking I have 8 harlequin rasbora, 4 male guppies, 6 amano shrimp and 30 (ish) cherry shrimp. I have 0 nitrates, 0 nitrites and 0 ammonia. pH about 7.5 and 25 degrees Celsius. The tank has been set up since April and was fully cycled before I added any animals.

I'm having trouble with algae - as you can see from the photos I have some hair algae and also algae growing on rocks, glass and the plant leaves. I also noticed my amazon sword is not looking the healthiest with holes and transparency on the leaves. I use root tabs for the sword (every 3 months or so) and liquid fertiliser for the other plants (weekly) who feed off the water column.

The tank came with a really strong marine light (1383 lumens) so I covered half of the lights with electric tape - this helped reduce the algae significantly, but it's still a problem and I don't want to cover more as the tank is getting dark.

The tank has a 132 US Gal/h (500 L/h) pump which creates a medium flow with surface agitation. None of the animals are showing any signs of oxygen shortage and the shrimp are breeding well.

Do I need to add CO2 (liquid or gas?) or perhaps an air stone to increase agitation? What would you try first? If CO2 - which system would be safest for my breeding cherries. This is my first planted tank and I've never used any CO2 systems.

Thanks!

Hi
I will remove infected leavs and hear algae by hand at 1st plaice. After this will cut down light for about 6h a day for couple of weeks. After this will lift up light becouse maybe is to close water surface and is to powerfull. After this will change water every other day 50% for two weeks. If this dont work you can start adding seachem Excel ( dont worry if you add exact dose your pets not die, im adding excel every day and my cherry are happy). Also will check phosphate and Nitrates level becouse is probobly to high. Aha try add just half dose fertilizer becouse your algae love this staff.

thanks Wrona0306 I'll remove the transparent leaves from the amazon sword, but can't really remove all the algae covered leaves as there would be none left! I'll also remove as much hair algae as I can. I'll try to reduce the lighting hours and maybe do a light vacation over the weekend (it's my office fish tank) to see if a couple days off might tackle it. The lights are currently on from 9am-6pm (9 hours) every day. Perhaps if I have them turn off for a couple hours in the middle of the day? or is it better to have them off longer over night - perhaps from 10am-4pm?

I'll also cut down on my liquid fertilizer - perhaps half dose every other week?

Can I ask why the 50% water change every other day? I have 0 nitrates. I'm happy doing more water changes, but scared the shock might cause some issued with my shrimp...

Dont worry about shrimp they will be fine if you prep water with prime and with similar temp. Algae absorbing food from water collumn and every water changes will reduce algae food source. Hardscape clean with toothbrush, leave clean gently with toothbrush also ( dont damage leaves). You shut be fine mate
