Common Pleco rescue

They're sold so tiny I would just worry about Pudge being pushy about food with it too. Do you think if he had enough hiding places I could put one in my current tank? I would QT first

Of course! Add a cave or something and you should be fine. You already know the requirements of food types and wood! They are sold small! Mines tiny lol he has only grown half an inch in a month!

Hea slowly getting more spots and the stripes are fading. He's growing up! Lol

 

I'm also thinking of getting one for my 40 breeder but today when I went to the pet stores (went to Petco and Petsmart) there weren't any in Petco they just had a albino (nothing wrong with albino!!!) but I wanted a more natural color.

 

I think if I was going to get an albino I'd have to get a long fin like Lchi87!

 

All they seem to sell are albinos and long fins. Waited 2 months to get mine.. Shipment came in and my tank wasn't ready. Goy the last one.. Almost missed out! Since I added my gourami he hides more.. hope he grows out of that with time.

 

Yeah I'm either getting a normal or a long fin one! But it is all chance. Is their any supplement for bristlenose plecos?

 

I never see albinos or long fins. I rarely even see normal colored ones! They're either always sold out or they don't sell them at all at the stores around me.

 

True! For such a popular fish I don't know why they don't have them

 

I'm in STL and albinos are all I find unless I special order... And BN plecos eat the same stuff as commons!

Great idea! They max out at 6-6.5 inches and most only get 4-5

I've notice for newer pet stores the quality of the tanks and fish is way better then the older ones. I believe most of the time the company won't re do their fish system unless its broken. I hope that your new fish section for Petsmart is better. Usually the new stores or renovation runs on better filtration than the old one.

 

It is so much better now!!! It looks amazingly clean and the fish are more active and healthier looking. Downside was, the BNs they got were half an inch long!!! Waaay too small for me to even attempt to put in my tank even after QT.

I talked to my LFS and asked if they could order me one that was a bit bigger. They make runs to their supplier on Sundays and are going to keep an eye out for one that's around an inch and half.

 

Yeah just last year a new Petco was built near me (only 10-15 min drive). The water in the tank is crystal clear and all the fish and plants are healthy. The other pets in the other sections are also healthy. However they only have a few tanks compared to another Petco near me (20 min drive). The Petsmart also near me although its about 20 min drive) the water is usually cloudyish and the fish in some tanks have different diseases such as ich and fin rot.

 

Mine only ever have albinos. Had to special order my normal one from a mom and pop store
