How do I get my newly bought common pleco to eat algae wafers ( he came from a pet store and we know they don't feed the plecos there) so any suggestions will be appreciated
this pet shop had them in a pool in the sun and lots of algae...so it never knew any meaty foodsTry something a little meatier, like shrimp pellets, they don't recognize algae wafers because most places either feed them nothing or the vacation feeder blocks which have pellets instead of algae wafers.
It will likely attract it though, if it was not born there you cannot be sure what it was fed before it got to that point, try and grow it some qlgae, stick a glass of water in the window in full sun and it should grow some fairly quickly.th

ok...is it okay if I put his aquarium in the sun insteadIt will likely attract it though, if it was not born there you cannot be sure what it was fed before it got to that point, try and grow it some qlgae, stick a glass of water in the window in full sun and it should grow some fairly quickly.
can you explain what you said. I don't understandIt would induce quite a lot of algae and possibly cause him to hide, you can increase your photoperiod but that is not recommended because algaes he won't eat will come into play.
yeah I know...he got a 10 inch piece of driftwood to eatWhat I did was dropped a wafer in overnight for the first couple days making sure to remove the old one in the morning. People say you shouldn't leave it in there that long but I'd you are monitoring and making sure to get all the old out you should be ok. I would check on him now and then to se if he was eating at the wafer. After the first few days I would see him in there chowing down. They will find it even if it is new. Just might take a few trys. Now that he comes out even in the light he will be on the wafers as soon as they touch bottom. Also make sure you have some driftwood in there for it's diet!
The increased light might make him shy. The algae that grows might be something he'll eat or something he won't touch, like black beard algae. Increase the time your lights are on would potentially cause that type of algae to grow.can you explain what you said. I don't understand
