Colors of female mystery snails

Is it true that the lighter the shell color is, the more likely a mystery snail is female? I am trying to create a more balanced tank. I have only 1 female right now and multiple males, and I'd like her to have some female companions. However, typically you get the snails as juveniles and sex is difficult to tell at that point. Any advice about how to find females to add to the tank, and/or about shell coloring, would be great!

The shade might be hard to judge, but females are supposed to have darker zone near the tip of the shell - as shown here.

Okay. Do they exhibit this darker zone when they are juveniles? I have a tank right now with three males and two females. One particular female seems overwhelmed by the male attention some of the time, and she is laying clutches like crazy. I thought if the balance between males/females was a bit better, that would help. I'm not sure.

As far as I know, not really as with pretty much any animal, the differences become obvious when they're close to maturity. I suppose this method could be viable with younger snails, but I'm not sure. I'd say try it, but if all the snails you check look like females, it's probably not working for juveniles either.

Or you could just go for young adult snails specifically.

Thank you. I wasn't aware you could do that. Every aquarium store I've gone to has baby snails. I'll keep checking out a few other stores. Thanks for your help!

Check local breeders. Especially if you go for yellow ones, pretty much everyone has them :D
