Clown Loaches Not Getting Better

my tank had an outbreak in ich and I have been medicating with a copper based medicine. All my other fish seem to be doing better but the clown loaches are not improving. They now have ich all over where it was a few spots before I started medicating.

Get your clown loaches out now! Clown loaches don´t have scales and ANY copper based medication will kill them (no matter the amount). Clown loaches do best if you just raise the temperature, put in a weak herbal medication, and do some water changes every other day.

EDIT: I am sorry if I seem a bit harsh but I wanted to make you understand it is URGENT that you get those clown loaches to a tank without copper. They can not handle that level of medication (which is why they are so hard to cure of Ich). I currently have some clown loaches with ich and I am doing what I described to you. I have a weak herbal medication in the water, I do water changes every other day, and I raised the temp to 80 Degrees F.

DaloAquatics is correct on the copper. Salt is also bad.

To treat heat with you need to up the temp to 86+ For at least two weeks.

Daily gravel vacuums are also needed. The parasite that’s three stages:

1. In the host where it can not be treated.

2. In the substrate.

3. Free swimming where the heat kills them.

Ive kept cories alive in a 90 degree tank for a month. Ensure you have tons of surface agitation. I added a few airstones in my 65 gallon and they never changed behavior. I would suggest you do something similar. Warmer water holds less o2.

I don’t have a quarantine set up so should I just add back the carbon to the tank and than get another type of medicine when I get home from school?
EDIT: Could this also be the reason I had my gold nugget pleco pass on? I noticed that he was just floating at the bottom of the tank but he didn’t have ich or anything wrong with him?

It is possible, I would add the carbon back and do a massive water change (50-75%), then raise the temperature SLOWLY, and do lots of water changes.

Will the ich spread again to my other fish if I stop using the copper? I’m going to prepare about 10 gallons of water tonight to change the water. I only have 2 five gallon buckets. Any recommendations for the mecidine for the clown loaches and other fish if it spreads back?

Just raise the temp and do water changes, Ich has three life stages, On the fish, in the rocks, free swimming in the water. When the Ich is free swimming high temps will kill it. Make sure to do water changes as well.

How do you prepare your water? Most water conditioners work instantly.

Clown loachers are doing a lot better. The ich is gone but they stil haven't gotten their color back yet.
