Clown Loaches Have White Spots(ich) Help

I was in the midst of doing a water change and my loaches like to hide in the castle and once I moved the castle to get the debris out from the rocks, I noticed both my clown loaches have ich it appears but none of my 3 mollies have it. So I’m in need of some advice before they die. My tank is almost done cycling too which is why I’m so aggravated by it’s happening now. I’m going to the lfs to see what meds to get and a better heater to raise the temp to kill the ich from what ive read so far. My heater now only regulates the tank to 79F.

Also my readings at
PH: 7
Ammonia: .25
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate:0

Well clown loaches don’t have scales they have a slime coat covering there body. So for that reason they usually get ick and other diseases first. Good thing is they recover quickly and are very hardy fish. Yes raise the temp to 82* and do 25% water changes daily. Vacuume the gravel while doing the wc.
Please add a picture. Ick is little white dots that look like salt. If it’s hairy it may be a mold of some sort so a picture will help.

Because of the slime on there bodies meds may be bad for them. Ask your lfs. Also a uv steralizer will kill the free swimming stage of ick.

Lfs recommended ick x and said it wouldn’t harm the loaches also they recommended some aquarium salt and I bought a thermometer I could change so the tank is set to 82F will attach pictures of the loaches and the spots on them. Pictures aren’t the greatest since they wouldn’t sit still.

It certainly does look like ich. I had it on my betta and thought the worst when I read about it .

They say you can't kill ich till it falls off the fish. Then tries to reattach.

I used love fish white spot it was a two dose treatment . I done a water change and applied it . Done another water change 4 days later and added again. By day 7 it was gone .

Since your water temp is up at 82. Add an air stone if you can . With high temps in water there is a lack of oxygen . Just keep repeating the process until it's gone .

Just remember to bring the temp back down slowly .

If you YouTube the cycle of ich you will get a better understanding .

I have two air stones in my tank, just did a water change today so I’ll do another tomorrow along with more medicine. I just really like the clown loaches and already lost 1 clown loach because he got stuck in an old decoration so I don’t want to lose these little guys either.

If you follow the advice on the bottle of ich you bought and keep your temp up around 82 then you'll speed up the cycle .

Hopefully all will go and you'll be ich free.

Clown loaches are my favorite fish, how many do you have?. They are awesome in large groups and have so much individual personality. With that being said I would suggest either rehoming them or returning them to your fish store unless you have a plan to get a larger setup ASAP. A 20 gallon tank is far too small even for babies. I've temporarily kept them in 55 gallon tanks before getting my 150 gallon tank, which I plan to upgrade in the next 5-7 years. They need allot of room to swim and the benefits of having larger water volume decreases fluctuations in water parameters which helps them stay healthy.

As for treating the immediate problem of ich raising the temp, daily water changes, and I've also been told to turn the lights off or reduce the duration of lighting throughout the day. Hope he gets better.

Please don't use salt for the loaches.

Heat water changes that vacuum the gravel!! You want to pick up the eggs before they hatch. A uv sterilizer work too.
Unforunatly clown loaches get big. 10+ inches. They take time to grow so if your going to keep them plan for a bigger tank.

Thanks and I do plan on upgrading the tank, they are still tiny yet so they aren’t crowded in my 20 gallon tank but I really like everything about the clown loaches, I only have two right now, but I had 3 one of them got stuck in a decoration and died unfortunately.
